Mindmapping on Vista - with the Ribbon GUI!

I am a big fan of mindmapping and a regular user of Mind Manager X5 pro when I was running XP on my system. However, X5 Pro is not compatible with running on Vista. Looking at other mindmap programs revealed a couple of free ones however both required Java (Freemind & Compedium). I have never been very comfortable with Java.

Then I came across Novamind. Not one that I had ever looked at before. Net 2.0 based, lovely GUI and the Ribbon!

Downloading and istalling the 30 day trial was painless (except for the now familiar Vista UAC dialogues). A day after I had installed an update was released, the program notified me of this on launch and offered to download the update and install it. 2 clicks and it was updated to the new version. This was also pretty impressive.

The program has a mind map tutor with step by step tutorial building up to a complex mindmap with all the bells and whistles.

I am very impressed so far. Novamind lends itself to both quick and simple note-taking and brain storming mindmaps as well as complicated maps with graphical background, icons and attached documents/resources. I think I have found my replacement to Mind Manager.

Dear NovaMind,

I have been using NovaMind for 3+ years now and it is my Swiss Army knife. I plan projects, write book chapters, create presentations, and develop courses and workshops with it.

I teach mind mapping in my courses and have had the department license NovaMind for the lab I teach in. My students love it and start using it for their other courses as well. I also teach staff and faculty workshops on mind mapping and the PC users have always been envious of NovaMind (but not for long now...).

Because of my mind mapping evangelism on campus, I have to keep on top of what is out there. That means testing every thing that comes down the pike. No other app has even come close to stealing my heart. The new features of version three have me drooling.

I stumbled across the demo version of Merlin, downloaded the trial, imported one of my NovaMind maps and instantly HAD TO HAVE IT. Thanks for teaming with ProjectWizards and thank you for my truly favorite application. I just can't live without NovaMind... and now... Merlin...

I use it for creating: business development plans, vision statements, course outlines, action plans, etc. The results are clear and appealing and encourage my colleagues and customers to read it all and take in the information, whereas a traditional, text-based presentation system would definitely not do that!

Well - I do not want to duplicate the - true - statements in the other testimonials, just one thing should tell it all: NovaMind set a personal record for me. That is: first shareware ever purchased within 1 hour after downloading the trial version.

After moving from Win XP back to Mac OS (after moving in the opposite direction 5 years ago) the only application I was really missing was Mind Manager and for a while I was afraid I would have to live with outlining tools such as OmniOutliner or Notebook (which are both very good products I do recommend if outlining is what you want to do). But outlining tools do not offer the amount of assistance and visual clarity in developing complex concepts, while being an enormous time saver in being a development, presentation and marketing tool at the same time.

Honestly, I have been involved in several large-scale international consulting projects and the difference between showing decision makers an outline (or presentation) and allowing them to actually "feel" how much effort and thought went into creating "their" solution by presenting a Mind Map is enormous and priceless.

NovaMind offers exactly that while even being easier to use than the Windows counter part. Add to that the reasonable pricing and (compared to many other current Mac OS X apps) broad import/export capabilities... (cannot even think of words to describe my happiness finding out how well the Mind Manager import works having more than 1700 of them at hand) this is a must have. Love it.

I've been using NovaMind for about 8 months now. It's simply a great tool with more versatile uses than you'd think. Once you get it and start using it you just naturally come up with more ways to use it. Great at mind mapping, brainstorming, notetaking. I highly recommend it. I use it for business, but no college or high school student should be without it.

"One of the most brilliant pieces of work I have ever seen"

Today I purchased NovaMind and it marks the beginning of a new life for me.

Your software has changed my life in ways I can't even begin to describe. In fact, I'm going to write about this in a book I am currently working on which has to do with understanding and overcoming attentional problems. I also will recommend this to the many psychologists and psychiatrists that I work with who treat children and adults with these life debilitating attentional disorders. I did discover mind mapping about 9 months ago after I was diagnosed with ADD. However I just was not able to bond with the program I was using at the time. I tried a couple of others but they didn't do much for me either. In December I finally made the switch to the Mac platform and that was certainly a liberating experience.

For some reason, several days ago I decided to search again for Mac OS mind mapping programs and that's when I discovered NovaMind. I downloaded the trial and I knew right away that this was "the one".

It is my opinion that your software design and concept ranks among the most brilliant pieces of work I have ever seen. The one suggestion I would offer is to have more tutorials like the one video you have about tasks and resources. For me, video instruction makes a big difference in my ability to quickly learn things. I would like to "master" your program quickly because it is so important for my work and life...

Anyway...thanks for creating this product.

I built my business, and quit smoking by Mind Mapping

Good afternoon

Just wanted to praise you on your easy to use software. Our company officially launches next Monday 12th February and we are manufacturing and marketing a brand new approach to help smokers who want to quit. Bringing all the information they require into one place, that can be combined with their own personal information, that can be read in under 3 minutes and that is small enough to fit into a pocket or handbag.

The Quitmap approach addresses the mental association with pleasure that smokers perceive and helps them to form new associations. Preparing mentally in this way takes away feelings of deprivation often experienced when smokers try to give up using treatments designed to alleviate the physical cravings only.

The original Mind Map I designed for this business was on a Holiday Inn telephone notepad whilst away on business last May. The idea came whilst I was laying in bed suffering a severe chest infection and still smoking. I Mind Mapped my alternatives and eventually came up with something that would not only benefit me but potentially millions of other smokers out there who wish to give up but do not know where or how to start.

...I am pleased to say that I have used Nova Mind to plan out each stage of my business from inception through to launch and will continue using it to plan the next stages of my business.

Every day I learn something new and only yesterday I found the Flexibranch facility and will use this to plan out my next two commercially available Mind Maps.

I just wanted to let you know that Nova Mind has been the best software purchase I have made in the last year! I utilize it everyday for my website development projects. I have gotten effective enough with the software to draft out complete conceptual navigation and graphic directions as I speak with a client in front of me. I completely blows them away when I send them away from a meeting with a super cool looking mind map of all we have discussed. The process also insures that there is very little room for error and misunderstanding of structural conceptions! I have tried out several of your competitors software packages prior to finding mind map and none of them were aesthetically appealing or user friendly enough for me to want to utilize them as a daily tool. Thanks for such a neat and useful product!

NovaMind 4 + Merlin = Phenomenal

I've been using the new 4.0 Pro version for an hour and I have to say I'm so excited at the potential for my brain to be free. This is amazing, I bought early 3.0 and have been using it fairly often, but the new improvements just save me so much time, and time is of the essence if you want to get something out and have it look effective too.

I have never offered feedback to any software except Merlin which is great but a little more complicated, I just had to tell you that i am in love with this software. THANKS.

I'm a Video Producer and run my own company with a few contract employees from time to time, it's tricky being an entrepreneur when you're not a natural task manager, more of the creative type. The combination of NovaMind and Merlin has saved my life, without any exageration. It's phenomenal.
